Protecting their business in Russia is a subject of interest for French companies and investors concerned by abusiness environment that is sometimes perceived as uncertain and arbitrary.

In addition to regular commercial risks, any business entering the Russian market has to deal with specific riskssuch as company raids, bad faith local partners, attacks on trademarks and trade names and other intellectualproperty, unfaithful competition, including aggressive and massive hiring of personnel, etc.

Preventive and curative risk management actions are not only highly advisable but are efficient. peopleSébastien Allaire, Partner, Certified Fraud Examiner, CIA, CISA, FCCA, Deloitte, Paris, is part of Deloitte’s riskmanagement service.

His practice focuses on the identification and prevention of fraud. He assists largebusinesses on strengthening their anti-fraud systems in France and internationally. He recently participated inroundtables on fraud risks organized by the IFACI (Institut Français de l'Audit et du Contrôle Internes), theAMRAE (Association pour le Management des Risques et des Assurances de l’Entreprise) and the DFCG(Directeur Financier et du Contrôleur de Gestion).

peopleXenia Legendre, Partner, Hogan & Hartson, Paris, is of Russian origin and has practiced law in France for thepast 17 years.

Xenia has extensive experience of advising clients on the structuring of merger and acquisitiontransactions, joint ventures, and restructuring projects.

peopleJulianna Tabastajewa, Counsel, Hogan & Hartson, Moscow, advises on intellectual property protection andlitigation, competition law, media law and franchising.

She also has extensive experience in domestic litigationsand arbitrations in Russia. Throughout her career, Julianna has represented major Russian and internationalcompanies in sophisticated copyright, trademark, patent, and domain disputes, including several successfulprecedent cases for Quelle AG, Volkswagen AG, Audi AG.

Julianna has contributed significantly to new domainregulations in the Russian Federation and has written extensively on the subject. She is also actively involved inintellectual property legislation development initiatives in Russia as an authority of the Anti-piracy Committee ofthe State Duma (legislative assembly) of the Russian Federation.
